ASME B36.19M is the standard specification for both welded and seamless stainless steel pipes. These stainless steel pipes may be used for high or low temperatures and pressures. This dimensional standard not only can be applied to wrought stainless steel pipes but can also be extensively applied to non-ferrous alloy pipes such as titanium, zirconium, copper and aluminum. Pipes conforming to ASME B36.19M dimensions shall be manufactured in accordance with relative ASTM and ASME material specification. The variations in dimensions or dimensional tolerances differ depending upon the method of manufacture employed in making the pipe to various specifications available. Permissible variations or tolerances are indicated in each specification.
ASME B36.19M covers dimensions of pipes sized from NPS 1/8 (DN 6) to NPS 30 (DN 750). Sizes larger than 30″ are also commercially available in accordance with ASME B36.10M. Pipes NPS 12 (DN 300) and smaller have outside diameters numerically larger than their corresponding nominal sizes. Pipes NPS 14 (DN 350) and larger have outside diameter numerically equal to the corresponding nominal sizes. Pipes conforming to ASME B36.19M may be furnished with plain ends (PE), butt welding ends (BW), threaded ends, and grooved ends.
ASME B36.10M is the standard covers the standardization of dimensions of welded and seamless steel pipe for high or low temperatures and pressures. However, the pipe material can be extended to nickel & nickel alloy, titanium & titanium alloy, zirconium & zirconium alloy, aluminum & aluminum alloy, copper & copper alloy, etc. ASME B36.10 covers sizes from NPS 1/8 (DN 6) through NPS 80 (DN 2000). There are several wall-thickness designations available: SCH 5, SCH 10, SCH 20, SCH 30, STD, SCH 40, SCH 60, XS, SCH 80, SCH 100, SCH 120, SCH 140, XXS, SCH 160. The weight calculation formulas are the same as that of ASME B36.19M.
The nominal weights (masses) of stainless steel pipe can be calculated using the following two formulas (if the formulas are applied to non-ferrous materials other than steel such as titanium, zirconium, or copper alloy, distinctive rectification factor shall be multiplied for each):
