• All air spring applications require adequate support for the upper and lower end components. While it is recommended that the air spring's support be fully extended to the diameter of the metal at the end connections, this is not always necessary.
• In arc motion, optimal performance is achieved when the upper and lower end components are parallel at the air spring's bumper contact height. A small reverse angle can be designed in at this location to reduce the spring's angle at maximum extension. For bellows, the wraps must separate as the air spring approaches maximum extension to prevent excessive wear.
• Do not exceed the spring's maximum extension height, measured outside the arc path.
• When designing air springs for use, care must be taken to ensure that no sharp edges contact the flexible member throughout the air spring's travel.
• This must be verified under maximum inflation and zero pressure operation, particularly for rolling leaf and sleeve-type rolling leaf springs, where the gap between the meniscus and the piston bearing surface decreases with decreasing pressure. The air spring's spatial envelope must exceed the air spring's maximum outside diameter by two inches (one inch on all sides) to allow for normal growth and deformation due to misalignment.
