Operation pressure is applied to the inlet (concentrated solution) side to overcome the natural osmotic pressure. When the operating pressure higher than the natural osmotic pressure is removed from the concentrated solution side, the flow direction of naturally penetrating water molecules will be reversed. The water (concentrated solution) at the water inlet will pass through the reverse osmosis membrane and become purified water produced at the dilute solution side. Reverse osmosis equipment can prevent all soluble salts and organic matters with molecular weight greater than 100, but the desalination rate of water molecules allowed to pass through reverse osmosis composite membrane is generally greater than 98%.
